President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, according to a statement released by his office. The cancer, marked by a high Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), has reportedly spread to his bones. However, it is said to be hormone-sensitive, meaning it may respond well to treatment. Biden and his family are currently exploring options for managing the disease.
Following the announcement, politicians from across the political spectrum shared messages of support and hope for Biden’s recovery.
Trump Shares Support Despite Political Rivalry
Former President Donald Trump, known for his sharp criticisms of Biden in the past, offered a surprisingly warm message. Posting on his social platform Truth Social, Trump said he and former First Lady Melania Trump were saddened by the news. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery,” Trump wrote.
Obama Expresses Confidence in Biden’s Strength
Barack Obama, under whom Biden served as vice president for eight years, also expressed support. Sharing his message on X (formerly Twitter), Obama wrote, “Michelle and I are thinking of the entire Biden family. Joe has done more than anyone to advance cancer research. We know he’ll take on this challenge with the same courage and determination he’s shown throughout his life.”
Cancer Moonshot and Personal Loss
Biden’s focus on cancer research has deep personal roots. In 2015, his son Beau Biden passed away from brain cancer. That loss led Biden to champion the Cancer Moonshot initiative, aimed at cutting cancer deaths and improving care for those affected.
Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, and Pelosi Respond
Vice President Kamala Harris also shared a heartfelt message. “Joe is a fighter,” she wrote. “He’ll meet this challenge with the same resilience and optimism that define his leadership. Doug and I are keeping the Bidens in our hearts and prayers.”
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton acknowledged Biden’s long-standing work on cancer research, stating, “I’m thinking of the Bidens as they face this battle. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery.”
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi praised Biden as a “great American patriot” and said she and her husband, Paul, were joining millions in praying for his strength and recovery.
