    As trend reports indicate, fleet management in Australia is adopting new technology due to heightened economic constraints and a demand for sustainability. This report, commissioned by Verizon Connect and conducted by ABI Research, analyzed the perspectives of 514 fleet managers, executives, and business professionals to reveal crucial industry trends and insights. Here’s an overview of the surveyed report and what it means for fleet management in Australia.

    Embracing GPS Tracking in Fleet Management

    GPS tracking systems have been the highlight of fleet technology. In 2024, 75% of Australian fleets adopted it, a 2% increase from the previous year. It improves fleet management by 82% and helps reduce costs by 67%. The general freight, construction, and government sectors reported notable improvements in productivity and operational efficiency.

    Due to the proven efficiency of technology, 86% of participants noticed a positive return on investment (ROI) within one year. The Key results are:  

    • Fuel saving: 48% of users saw a reduction in fuel use, ranging from 5% to 20%
    • Better route planning: Reported by 46% of respondents
    • Improved customer experience: Noted by 44% of users. 

    Growing Use of Video Telematics and AI-Enabled Dashcams

    Fleets are adapting advanced technologies like AI dashcams and video telematics to improve security and operational efficiency. These tools have a proven value: 

    • Improved driver safety: 73% of users noticed positive changes
    • Fewer false claims (70%) and lower accident-related expenses (56%)
    • Reduced insurance costs for 45% of users.

    Businesses in various industries that use AI video solutions have reported reductions in unauthorized vehicle use (as much as 75%), tailgating (72%), and driver distraction (56%). These tools significantly help in safety training and claim investigations. 

    Benefits of  Fleet Technologies in Different Industries

    • Construction: The construction industry has turned to GPS and asset tracking to enhance equipment use (73%), increase safety (65%), and boost productivity (51%).
    • General Freight: Businesses in this sector have seen better rule compliance (53%) and productivity (60%) while achieving significant fuel savings.
    • Passenger Transport: This sector has better route efficiency and stolen vehicle recovery, with 55% reporting improvements in both areas.
    • Government: Public fleets focused on increasing productivity (69%) and successfully recovering stolen assets (62%), highlighting the value of GPS in public service operations.
    • Services: Companies in this sector improved customer service (67%) and compliance while also working to manage labor-related expenses.

    Electric Vehicles and the Move Towards Sustainability 

    Australian fleets are increasingly shifting to eco-friendly alternatives, with 51% now using battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The report predicts faster adoption soon, driven by 

    • Expanded charging infrastructure
    • Better EV technology with extended range and lower costs

    The advantage of integrating GPS technology with electric vehicles (EVs) can boost fleet visibility by 49%, lower carbon emissions by 35%, and reduce operational expenses by 47%.

    Technology’s Impact Amid Economic Pressures 

    Even with the ongoing economic challenges, fleet technologies support cost savings and improved efficiency. Fleet managers report their biggest daily concerns as rising expenses (75%), safety risks (64%), and fuel costs (61%). Technology has helped ease these pressures by lowering costs in several key areas: 

    • Fuel by 21%
    • Labour by 18%
    • Accident-related costs increased by 19%

    Conclusion: Embracing a Tech-Powered Future

    The 2025 Fleet Technology Trends Report highlights how advanced technologies are becoming essential for overcoming economic pressure and supporting sustainable fleet operations. Australian fleets are more inclined toward new technologies, such as intelligent tracking systems and electric vehicles, to work more efficiently, stay safer on the roads, and help the environment.

    Adopting fleet management technologies is necessary for businesses aiming to succeed in this evolving environment. These solutions provide the insights, cost savings, and operational control needed to stay competitive and environmentally responsible.
